i used to read more too.

I miss this. I dont know why I have been away, voiding the space that this little virtual haven opens for my verbalicious nonsense. Its not as though I havnt had anything to write about. In fact many ridiculous, sad, happy, stupid, and uninteresting events have graced my day to day that you all would love to pointlessly read, not really caring but at the same time killing just enough time to make it a worthwhile read.

Though life is moving incredibly quick right now, and as weeks fly by while I continue to strive at building something out of nothing to call my life's work, I wonder if I no longer write as frequently because indeed I am busy, or is it that when routine starts to take over a little bit, your thirst for a creative flare to describe your everyday starts to dwindle in the wake of getting a little bit more work done.

Either way, these three little parablurbs are enough to excite my writing blood lines once again, and I do think I will take up the typed pen a few more times a week than I have for the last month. Especially since I have finally weened away all the haters that come over from Paige's blog to read my words only to hate on me because I happen to know her.

I swear if I hit on Tony Pierce or had a two or three more references of seeing Raymi at a bar, my blog would be bombed and Danish cartoons would be drawn about the situation.

Is it too soon to point out the ridiculousness of that story?

Cape or Degree? You Decide.

bold statement for the day:

In order to be a super hero you must drop out of school.

This very true statement came to me in a dream. If I want to have super powers I must dissown all educational merits I have ever achieved in order to pursue my life as a above average super hero.

Sure with a nice educational background, and heightened intelligence I could help people, become an above average citizen contributing to the greater good of all man, but in spite of those possibilities, I will never be able to be a real super hero.

If you think of the all the greats, they never had a BA nor did they ever really attempt to finish out any college or university programming.

SpiderMan, just couldnt manage the busy nightlife of spidey sensing New York's problem areas and so his studies failed and he had to devote a full time career to part time photography and super hero work. Not a bad gig for a high school graduate.

Batman - well batman was a ninja so its a completely different education, and he was very in tune with knowledge, but its a completely different cookie cutter.

Superman, well okay, superman went to school, but he's so made up. I mean seriously, a SUPER...MAN...gimme a break. Other planets, smallville's and other made up mega cities. Anyone who believes in superman shouldnt be allowed into a college anyways.

Regardless, to all kids out there that are reading this, drop out of school, take a costuming class, build yourself a sweet cape and discover what life is really about.

Thinking Forward

The mockery associated with being "leftist" is a hindrance upon any movement that should be considered open minded, liberal, and understanding, and while the primal pack like moves of the conservative right are dictating the continued move towards a future embedded in the problems that are associated with the nation state, I wonder if ever the concept of "the left" will evolve to encompass a movement of growth and effective use of the modern tools that are at our disposal.

I, personally, now strive to work with non profit, government programs, and social service endeavours using my knowledge of branding, marketing, consumption, and materialism to effect positive change and growth within these institutions whose basic principles lie in the aid and growth of community (www.atypical.ca). I truly believe that capitalism need not be the root of all evil, and that a balance in how we consume and what we consume for can be met. If the thought of working for yourself by working for others were a more widely accepted ambition I feel as though the fundamentals of a "leftward" thinking society would somehow take on a more serious and powerful role in the decision making of global powers. I wanted to take inspiration from a mandate that I read in Adbusters Big Ideas issue for 2006, but after reading it over and over I think it is best that I just reproduce the message in its entirity.

Here is the excerpt from January's Adbusters that I reference these thoughts from:

How come there are so many right-wing thrashers having a great rollickinig time mocking the left, all the while setting forth their grandiose visions for the future of humanity? Where are our thrashers, our storytellers, our media heroes? What even happened to our ability to take down the easy targets, the unqualified screw-ups, the backroom villains - never mind the big-time players with the bottomless pockets? Its time to admit that our whiny, reactive, complaint-based activism has not worked since the Soviet Union crumbled 15 long years ago. That the only way forward, the only way to construct a compelling alternative, is to abandon the old left - to jump over its dead body - and forge a new kind of activism, one that is forward-thinking inspirational, and that rests on a breathtakingly new set of ideas.
